Sometimes you work with a boss you feel is not 'good'. You even think the boss is the meanest person you have encountered in the office space. You tell family and friends about how wicked the person is. The name dominates your conversations about your work. You may even go to the extreme by drinking in the name of this so called malicious person.
You start searching for another place. At some of the interviews, you are unable to hide your dislike for your boss. Fortunately, you land a new job that comes with a great package. Alas! Freedom from the tyranny you tell yourself.
You start spiting your boss; after all, you’re on your way out. You also deepen your negative gossiping with team members and other staff.
Then you finally leave, with a sense of freedom. You start your new job and on day four you realise your new boss is worse. BAM!
Granted, some managers are plain wicked but every manager has his or her style. As a team member your responsibility is to understand your manager and what makes him or her tick and zone in on that.
You need to understand that your happiness in the workplace depends on you and how you manage the various relationships that come your way within the four walls of your office.
Sometimes the problem could even be you and not your manager…do a little introspection and ask for feedback from your colleagues (bear in mind the typical Ghanaian will only give you “the good feedback’ and not the constructive feedback. Always be ready for that).
When you notice three of your bosses in three different companies are bad bosses, just know that you are the problem…work on yourself.
There is nothing as a bad boss…it is all about how you manage the person and how well you understand his/her language.
